## Overview

Yes, we fix cracked phone screens in store, and it is the repair we do most, on iPhones, Samsung Galaxy phones and Google Pixels alike. The first thing to establish is which repair your phone actually needs. If the picture is still correct and touch works everywhere, the damage may be limited to the outer glass. Black patches, colored lines, flickering or dead spots under your finger mean the display underneath is damaged too, and the whole display assembly has to be replaced.

That difference shows up in the price, which is why we look at the phone before we quote. For iPhones, our published screen prices run from $60 on the iPhone 5 and 5c to $399.99 on the iPhone 12 Pro Max. For Samsung phones they run from $59.99 on the Samsung S3 to $399.99 on the Samsung Note 8, and for Google Pixel and Nexus phones from $89 on the Google Nexus 5 to $249.99 on the Pixel 3 and Google Pixel 3 XL. Each model's full price list is on its own page under iPhone, Samsung and Google Pixel repair.

## Glass only or the full display? A two-minute check

Turn the brightness up and open a plain white screen, such as a blank note. Look for dark spots that bleed outward, colored lines, a green or pink cast, or areas that look bruised. Then drag one icon slowly around every edge and corner of the screen. If it follows your finger everywhere and the image is clean, the display panel is probably fine and only the glass is broken. If the screen stays black while the phone still rings or vibrates, the display has failed, not the phone.

Most current phones use OLED screens, where the glass and the panel are laminated together. On those, even a glass-only crack is usually repaired by replacing the assembly, and the price table shows which option applies to your model. Some older iPhones, such as the iPhone 11 and XR, use LCD panels, and those behave and price differently.

## What changes by brand: Face ID, fingerprint sensors and foldables

On an iPhone, the Face ID or Touch ID hardware is paired to the phone's own board, so it is moved across to the new screen rather than replaced. Apple lists the display under Parts and Service History in Settings → General → About; a display iOS can't verify shows as an Unknown Part, and Apple notes that it can affect True Tone and touch.

Samsung Galaxy and Pixel phones with a fingerprint reader under the screen are different: the sensor sits beneath the display, so after a new screen you should plan to register your fingerprints again. Google provides a calibration step for the under-display sensor after a Pixel display is replaced. On a Galaxy Z Fold or Z Flip, the inner screen carries a factory protective layer that Samsung says should never be peeled off; lifting or bubbling of that layer is worth bringing in before it damages the folding panel.

## Repair the screen or replace the phone?

A screen is worth replacing on almost any phone that still gets software updates. It becomes a closer call when the screen is one of several problems, such as a weak battery and a loose charging port on an older model, or when the frame is bent badly enough that a new screen won't sit flat. We tell you if your phone is in that territory before you pay for parts.

## Why a cracked screen shouldn't wait

Don't leave a cracked screen for long. The broken area lets dust and moisture into the phone, and the sharp edges can cut your fingers. Cracks also grow: a phone that is fully readable this week can have a dead band of touch next month, at which point a glass-level problem has become a display one. Most screen jobs are finished the same day because we keep the common parts in stock; if the part for your model has to be ordered, we tell you before we start.

## Before you bring your phone in for a screen repair

Back it up if the screen still lets you. A screen replacement doesn't erase your phone, but a backup protects you if anything unexpected turns up. Bring the passcode or PIN so we can test touch, Face ID or the fingerprint sensor once the new screen is on. Samsung owners can switch on Maintenance mode under Settings → Battery and device care, which keeps photos, messages and accounts hidden while the phone is out of your hands; Pixels have a similar Repair mode under Settings → System. Then walk in at our Tucson Mall store or call ahead.
