We repair the Pixel 7, and the first thing to know is that it is built differently from its cheaper sibling, the 7a. It has a 6.3-inch 90Hz OLED with Gorilla Glass Victus on the front and the back, the aluminum camera bar runs the full width of the phone, and it is rated IP68. The 7a has a smaller 6.1-inch screen, Gorilla Glass 3, and a plastic back. A glass back can shatter, so on the Pixel 7, back damage is a repair in its own right rather than a cosmetic scuff.

## Cracked Pixel 7 back glass and wireless charging

With a cracked back, the wireless charging coil sits right behind the glass, and loose fragments end up around the camera bar. The Pixel 7 charges wirelessly at up to 20W on Google's second-generation Pixel Stand, so a phone that has become slow or patchy on its stand since a drop usually has a back problem, not a battery problem.

The full-width camera bar also means a flat drop onto the back can crack the glass on either side of it. Cover sharp edges with clear tape until the repair, and keep the phone dry; a cracked back no longer keeps water out.
