The mini's display is fully laminated, meaning the glass and the LCD are bonded into one part. A crack in the glass, even with a perfect picture underneath, is repaired by replacing the whole display assembly. On a tablet this compact the working margins inside are tight, so the display is removed with heat and patience, the flex cables are disconnected one at a time, and the new screen is checked for touch across every corner before the adhesive is sealed.

## How the iPad mini 7 usually breaks

Because it is light enough to hold in one hand and small enough for a pocket, the mini tends to fall from awkward heights and land on a corner. Corner impacts crack the glass in a starburst and often bruise the LCD at the same point, which shows as a dark or discolored patch close to the crack.
