## Overview

Yes. A Galaxy that dies by mid-afternoon, shuts off while the indicator still shows 20–30%, or runs hot doing ordinary things usually needs a new battery rather than a new phone. Batteries lose capacity with every charge cycle and with heat, and drops, overheating and liquid exposure all shorten their life.

Our published Samsung battery prices run from $25 on the Samsung S3 to $149 on the Samsung S21 Ultra. The table on this page lists all 30 Galaxy models we price, each linked to its full price list, where any in-stock or order-in note is shown exactly as quoted. If your model isn't listed, call (520) 477-8822 with the model number from Settings, About phone.

## Rule out the free fixes first

Background apps and a very bright screen drain any battery quickly, and outdated software or a system bug can do the same. Check which apps are using the most power in the phone's battery settings and make sure it is up to date. Give it a day or two after a major update, since phones often re-index files and drain faster for a short while.

If the battery still drains fast after that, the cell itself is worn.

## Check your Galaxy battery health with Samsung Members

Samsung's own app gives a quick verdict. Open Samsung Members, tap Support, then Phone diagnostics, and run the battery status test. A result of Normal means the battery is fine; Weak means its efficiency has dropped with age; Bad means it has degraded significantly and replacement is the sensible step.

Use it alongside how the phone behaves. A Weak result on a phone that still gets you through the day can wait; a Weak result on a phone that shuts off at 25 percent can't.

## Battery, charging port or charger?

A worn battery and a failing port can look alike, but they behave differently. A tired battery charges normally and then drains fast, or shuts the phone down early. A port problem shows up while charging: the cable has to be held at an angle, charging starts and stops, fast charging no longer kicks in, or the phone warns about moisture in the port when it is dry.

Try a second cable and power adapter before deciding. If those fix it, the accessory was the problem. If not, look into the port with a light for packed lint. A phone that gets hot while sitting idle, rather than while charging or in use, can point to an app or software problem as much as to the battery, which is another reason we check before replacing anything.

## Swelling batteries: stop charging

If the back panel or the screen has started to lift away from the frame, the battery is swelling. Stop charging the phone and bring it in rather than pressing it back into place. A swollen lithium cell is under internal pressure, and squeezing or puncturing it can make it vent or catch fire. Heat speeds this up, so don't leave a phone like this in a hot car.

## What a Galaxy battery replacement involves

On most recent Galaxy phones the battery is reached through the back. The glass back is held on with adhesive, so it is warmed and lifted, the battery connector is unplugged, and the old cell, which is also glued in, is released slowly without bending it. Then the new battery goes in, the back is sealed with fresh adhesive, and the phone is tested on charge and under load.

Older models with a plastic back come apart differently, and some phones need more parts moved before the battery is reachable, which is part of why prices vary by model.

One honest note on water resistance. The back is resealed with new adhesive, which keeps out dust and splashes, but no repair shop can test a phone back to its original factory water rating. Treat a repaired phone as splash-resistant rather than something to take swimming.

## Making the new battery last

Newer Galaxy phones include a Protect battery option in the battery settings. Depending on the software version, it can stop charging at 80 percent or pause fast charging overnight and finish just before you wake. Turning it on, and keeping the phone out of direct sun and parked cars in a Tucson summer, slows the wear on your new cell.

Before your visit, back up the phone and bring your PIN or pattern so we can test it afterward.
