Can You Fix a Cracked iPhone Camera Lens? Cost by Model

The lens cover and the camera module are different parts with very different prices. How to tell which one you have damaged before you pay for the wrong repair.

iPhone

Yes — and in most cases you need the cheaper repair rather than the expensive one. The cracked part is usually the protective lens cover, not the camera module underneath. Replacing that cover is a modest job; replacing a camera module on an iPhone 14 is $119 for the rear or $89 for the front. Establishing which you need is the first thing to do.

The two-minute test

Go outside or somewhere well lit and take a few photos with each rear lens — main, ultra-wide and telephoto if your phone has them. Then look at them full screen.

If the images are sharp, correctly coloured, and free of haze or flare, the module is working and the damage is confined to the glass cover. If you see a permanent blurred patch, a bright flare that appears in every shot, or spots that stay in the same position as you move the phone, something has reached the module or the cover fragments are sitting against it.

One lens affected and the others fine is a strong sign of localised cover damage rather than a module fault.

Why the cover cracks so readily

The camera array stands proud of the back on every recent iPhone, so it is the first thing to contact the ground on a face-up drop. It is also the point that takes the load when a phone is put down hard on a table. Cases with a raised camera lip genuinely help here, more than they help anywhere else on the phone.

What happens if you leave it

Cracked cover glass does not stay stable. Fragments loosen and migrate into the gap between the cover and the lens element, and that is when a purely cosmetic crack starts showing up in your photos as haze or a fixed blur. Dust and moisture take the same path.

The repair is cheaper before that happens than after, because once debris has scored the module itself the cover replacement no longer restores image quality.

What the repair involves

The damaged cover is removed, the housing is cleaned thoroughly — this is the part that matters, because leaving fragments behind defeats the exercise — and a new cover is fitted and sealed. The module itself is untouched, which is why it is a fraction of the cost of a camera replacement.

Where the module has been damaged, that is a different job and we will tell you before quoting rather than after.

Getting a price

Camera work is priced per model. We publish over 600 repair prices, and where your exact model is not listed we will quote over the phone in a couple of minutes. Diagnostics are free and the fee comes off the repair.

We are inside Tucson Mall at 4500 N Oracle Rd, Ste 204, Mon–Sat 9am–9pm and Sun 10am–6pm. Bring the phone; the test above takes us about the same two minutes it takes you.

Test each lens properly

Switch between 0.5x, 1x and the telephoto if your phone has one, and take a photo at each in good light. Then repeat somewhere with a bright light source in frame. Flare that appears only in one lens, or a halo that stays in the same place as you move the phone, is the clearest sign that cover damage has started affecting the image.

Also check video. Some cover cracks show up far more obviously in motion than in a still, because the flare moves as the light source does.

Why leaving it gets expensive

The sequence is predictable. The cover cracks. Fragments loosen and work into the gap. Those fragments abrade the lens element underneath. At that point replacing the cover no longer restores image quality, and the repair becomes a camera module replacement — $119 for a rear module on the iPhone 14 against a considerably cheaper cover.

The window between those two states is measured in weeks of normal use, which is why this is a repair worth doing promptly rather than eventually.

What we check alongside it

A cracked camera cover almost always means the phone was dropped on its back, so we look at the back glass and the frame at the same time. Finding a hairline crack in the back panel while the phone is already open saves you a second visit and a second repair.

Prevention that actually works

A case with a raised lip around the camera array is the single most effective accessory for this specific failure. It is the one place where the plastic edge genuinely does the job it claims to.

We are inside Tucson Mall at 4500 N Oracle Rd, Ste 204, open Mon–Sat 9am–9pm and Sun 10am–6pm. Diagnostics are free and most cover replacements are same-day.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is a cracked camera lens the same as a broken camera?
No, and the distinction is the whole point. The lens cover is a protective glass over the module. If photos are sharp and only the glass is cracked, you need the cover replaced — far cheaper than the camera itself.
How do I tell which one is damaged?
Take photos with each rear lens in good light. If the images are sharp with no haze, blur or spots that stay in the same place across shots, the module is fine and the damage is cosmetic glass.
How much does camera repair cost?
Lens cover replacement is the cheaper repair and priced per model. For context, a full rear camera module on the iPhone 14 is $119 and the front camera is $89 — the protective cover alone is considerably less.
Will cracked lens glass get worse?
Usually yes. Fragments shift and end up between the cover and the module, which is when a cosmetic crack starts producing visible artefacts in photos.
Can you do it same day?
Lens cover replacement is normally same-day. A full module replacement depends on parts availability for your model.
